Challenge
Designing for an interactive kiosk is something new for us. We have considered the challenges below as an opportunity to showcase our expertise in designing digital experiences:
- The traditional menu list at the entrance must be converted into a digital format to improve the customer experience
- The sense of familiarity of touch screen gestures must be translated onto the large screen
- The technology we will use is limited by the kiosk’s hardware
Accessibility
When designing user experience for interactive kiosks, reach is a factor that we have taken into a consideration for the target users from tall people to handicapped people in wheelchairs. The menu buttons should be within arm’s reach and the videos and photos strategically placed on top within the angle of vision of a standing person.
Traditional vs Digital
The restrictions of a traditional printed menu format limits the size of photos and text that can be fit into a medium. A digital screen removes these limits and creates a more engaging experience by allowing embedded videos, interactive maps and interactive navigation.
Branding
We based the design of the interactive kiosk on the interior elements of the restaurant and menu booklet to create a unifying seamless experience.
